Workshops
I live and work in western Massachusetts, where I am on faculty at the Hallmark Institute of Photography. As a photo-documentarian, though, I love to travel to new communities and explore the experiences of the people who live there.
And there's no better way to do that than to teach workshops around the country. Upcoming workshops I will be teaching are listed to the right. Feel free to check back in periodically to see where I'll be going next!
What students say...
&mdash "Great professor! She loves photojournalism and loves talking about it. Her relaxed nature has helped me feel free to communicate my ideas and concerns. She is great in providing feedback and help."
— "I loved this class. I learned a great deal about how to use my camera and how to make beautiful and compelling photographs. Beth made us feel like great and accomplished photojournalists."
— "I have to tell you something. I LOVE YOUR CLASS! It's the highlight of my week. In case you haven't noticed already, I'm perched on your every word. As a teacher myself for the past 15 years, I appreciate your patience, your passion for your craft and your students, and your ability to take complex thoughts/concepts and break them down into ways that most people can understand. That's a talent that most teachers don't have.
"Last night's class, while instense and slightly overwhelming, was a true pleasure. They fact that you were able to answer my question of "how does the size of a hole make things more or less in focus?" was a huge relief for me. No one has been able to answer that question for me. If I'm asking to many questions, please tell me. I'll understand and won't be offended. I want to learn more and more. Unfortunately, the more I learn, the more questions I have. It's a vicious cycle, I know. But, I'm very confident that you'll be able to assist me in becoming the type of amateur photographer I want to me.
"Above everything else, thank you. Thank you, Beth, for having an open door policy with your students, for being confident and well-crafted, professional, empathetic and patient with your students. These are signs of a true, well-respected teacher."
